On the Saturday 29th May 2010 a unique fundraising event will take place. At precisely 0930hrs Four riders will Set off from Islington Green in North London and pedal their bicycles 1100km (700 miles) to the French Alpine town of Morzine Avoriaz. They hope to acheive this arduous journey in 8 days.

However! there is a slight twist to the event. They will be riding on PASHLEY GUV'NOR vintage style 3 speed path racer bicycles and will also be dressed in replica vintage cycling clothing. It will be reminicent of a scene from an old Tour De France as they travel down roads, across cobbles and over mountains made famous by the worlds toughest bicycle race.
They will have long days in the saddle, carrying a small pack of essential spares to keep them going over the hundreds of kilometres. At times they will be pushing their bicycles over the top of high mountain passes. The air will be thin, their hearts pounding and their legs will be sore. They will have no vehicle back up and will have to seek out the help of local tradesmen and villagers if they need further help to repair their bicycles, their kit or themselves!
The angel ride will be raising money for the LAVENDER TRUST which benefits young women who become diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The riders will be pedalling in memeory of Heidi Beer who lost her life to Breast Cancer at the age of 29. Heidi spent her teenage years in Islington London before moving to Morzine in France, hence the route to be conquered by the Angel Riders.
Listen to the latest podcast from Julia Armstrong, her interview with team member Nick Miles helps give an insight into the inspiration for the Angel Ride.
